The blog.

My cousin Michelle has a blog and this week she asked me if I had ever thought about starting a blog. Actually, it went more like this—“Katherine, have you ever had a blog? You should make one. You’d be good at it.”

Well, I don’t know about that…but here goes. When I opened up “blogger.com,” I started going through the steps. They seemed pretty simple until I hit the first “continue” button and it said to name my blog.

Name it? I haven’t even started it! It doesn’t have an actual purpose or ultimate destination. I had just assumed I’d write about whatever I wanted…because I’m totally a “go with the flow” kind of girl (that’s a joke, I’m pretty Type A and proud of it…I love my lists). But really, this blog is about whatever I feel like talking about!

Anyways, the name of the blog comes from the Bible. The book of James is my favorite book. I love talking about joy and I love the mirror metaphor. James 1:23-24 says “Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like someone who looks at his face in a mirror and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like.” This verse convicts me to not be hypocritical. We learn about caring for others and putting others before ourselves, but sometimes (a lot…) selfishness prevails. Once I even read about using “Joy” as an acronym—Jesus, Others, Yourself=JOY. So as I start my sophomore year, with all of the challenges it presents to me, I am going to strive for pure joy.
